The Cat Tarot Deck: A review

Last weekend, I purchased a novelty tarot deck - "Cat Tarot" written by Julia Smillle and illustrated by Megan Lynn Kott. The illustrations are amazing; however, the written meanings on the minor tarot cards between two and ten of each suite are NOT marked on the cards (as they should be) and therefore you must look up the IMAGE of each and every card in the manual to find out the exact meaning of each card. Quite annoying actually for beginners. I do not use this deck to do readings and I have learned the general meanings of each card through experience. But, it is very helpful for anyone new to the craft to be able to reference these minor arcana cards in the deck if they were marked as other decks are.

Example: These minor arcana cards which are not marked are: (L-R) the Five of Wands, Three of Swords, and the Six of Wands.

Not exactly obvious to most practitioners.

As a novelty deck, it is cute, but as a go-to deck, not so much.

Weekend Happenings

Greetings all. Just a quick post for today. Yesterday, I used a 1 in 4 earned day off from mandatory overtime to spend some time with my sister, Aurora Skye. After we had lunch, we went shopping here and there at our favorite places. One of them was. "Gem on Penn" where I found some beautiful pieces of gemstone jewelry ...

A pair of garnet earrings ...

A pretty peridot pendant and earring set ...

Larimar studs ...
And also a pair of emerald studs ...

"Gem on Penn" was letting all of their customers pick out a piece of jade to celebrate "St. Patrick's Day". ☘☘☘☘

I bought another novelty tarot deck of "Cats" (really cute) at "Barnes & Noble" ...

This is what the box looks like on the sides ...

"Ulta Beauty" gives you a little gift bag of three goodies when you spend a certain amount ...

And, finally at "Michael's" this book ...

This book sounds like another version of the motion picture, "The Cutting Edge" ... one of my FAVORITE movies!! ...

New Mermaid Tarot Deck

I very recently purchased a new Mermaid Tarot deck at "The Mystic Mind". The main reason that I bought it was because I really loved the beautiful artwork!

Now, do I plan on actually using this deck for my readings? Not exactly because my go-to deck has always been the Aquarian Tarot. It embodies my personal energy and so I am quite comfortable with it ...

My wooden hand-crafted tarot card box from my trip to Salem, MA many years ago! ...

The Mermaid Tarot Deck and accompanying Guide Book ...

Along with the new deck, I also purchased this hard cover book on sale at Barnes & Noble, "The Book of Tarot" by Sahar Huneidi-Palmer ...

And, I could not resist this cute little Cat Cafe Mystery book ...

I even had a little left-over yarn in which to make a tarot card bag. :)
Wishing all a wonderful weekend!

New Tarot Deck

As both a cat enthusiast and lover of the tarot, I am always looking for something new and different. My sister Robin saw a beautiful new deck at Barnes & Noble in the New Age section called, "Mystical Cats Tarot" by Lunaea Weatherstone with gorgeous art by Mickie Mueller ...

(A sample of the Major Arcana cards: 0-The Cat, I-Cat Magic, & II-The Priestess)

This deck is a bit different in that it varies slightly from the traditional tarot cards. For example, instead of using the terms Cups, Swords, Wands/Rods, and Pentacles, the suits are actually referred to as "The Cat Clans" which consist of Fire Cats, Sea Cats, Sky Cats, and Earth Cats ...

And, even the names and descriptions of the Major Arcana cards are different as well, including certain names within the individual Minor Arcana themselves i.e. "The Good Kitty" (Judgement), "Consequences" (Justice), "The Floating Cat" (The Hanged Man), and "Grace" (Temperance) ...

The Minor Arcana cards are divided into the following: Ace, King, Queen, Kitten (Page), and Tom (Knight).

Also included in the box set of these cards is a cool instructional book called, "Tales of the Mystical Cat." LOVE this deck and I can't wait to cleanse and consecrate it so that I may begin using them!  ;-)

Spiritual consult ...

As a practitioner, I have been reading the tarot for many years now. Seldom, have I ever used them as spiritual guidance for myself because I have always felt that I am far "too close" to the matter at hand. But, lately an issue has arisen in my life that was so crutial that the need for comfirmation was strong!

I usually do my best to go with my "gut"  feelings or inner voice which, if I am smart, I will follow them. Although sometimes it is extremely difficult to see our way through a given situation and we sometimes find that further spiritual advice is needed. I will say here in this post the very same thing that I tell all of my clients for whom I read, and that is that the cards are merely a tool used as a method of guidance or personal confirmation of something that deep inside of us we are or may already be aware of! They can also be considered a type of warning as to what will happen if we continue on a path which we know in our hearts to be wrong or disasterous in the end.

Of course, we can not change our past, our present is exactly that, but we do have much control over our future outcomes. By listening to both our instincts and the cards, we have the choice to make an informed, although not always easy in some cases, decision. In my case, the cards served to strongly confirm my fears. On the other hand; however, by doing so they helped give me the clarity which I was so lacking in order to see my problem through.

I also did something else which I very rarely do and that is perform another reading in regards to the same issue using my same deck. Interestingly enough and yet not surprisingly, the reading came up with the same accuracy and warnings that the first did. Even though the cards were not exactly the same, the cards which had showed up from the rest of the deck held the very same types of warnings and where very clear! In other words, the reading itself had NOT changed.

I personally still do not prefer to perform readings on myself. I find it difficult to keep my emotions in check just long enough to be able to maintain a clear head,  but I do realize that there are times when it may be necessary to do so.
