Three-day weekend

Greetings, friends. well it will be a three-day weekend for me as we have Martin Luther King, Jr's birthday holiday off tomorrow. Later on today; however, we are expecting bad weather. No one except for Mother Nature knows exactly how much we will truly get, but regardless I am glad to not have to drive in the crappy winter weather to go to work tomorrow! I had every intention of publishing this post last night; however, it took me 5 hours ... I repeat, FIVE long hours to do the P.I.T.A. (pain in the ass) Windows 10 updates on my laptop.  A ridiculously long time as far as I am concerned. 😖

Yesterday, I ran to the pet store for more cat food and litter - something I was completely out of as of Friday night so I had to go anyhow - pending bad weather or not. I even stopped off at the CVS across the road from my house to put together a nice little collage of Kyli's Sweet 16 celebration from last Saturday. They are fairly inexpensive so I made a copy for Kiki as well ...

Other than that, I did next to nothing the remainder of the day other than chill with the cats ...

Lazy day ...

If I get a chance, I might try to publish some snow pics later on tonight ....

The "Tabby" Conundrum

Greetings and salutations everyone! This morning, I had to take Lady Tabitha to a pet groomer to get her messy matts and knots out of her fur. Since she has gotten older, she does not (or perhaps is not able to) groom herself like she used to. So, we needed to take her somewhere.

Somewhere? Hmmm, that was a bit of a problem because trying to find a pet groomer in my area whose main clients are dogs and would also groom cats is extremely difficult. First, I called the place that groomed her about two years ago when she had this same problem, but they were very rude and just plain jerks actually and refused to take her. So, next I called Pet Smart, but they needed proof of her current shots or else they would not take her either! Finally, I reached out to my friend Meg who suggested that I call another place that offers grooming services called "Pet Supply Plus." Well, they no longer groom cats BUT they were very helpful and gave me the name of a local groomer who happens to be close to my house called "Penelope's Pooches."

Folks, this groomer is wonderful! They were so good with her and I was so very grateful. I made another appointment for May, in the event that I should need to take Tabitha again for a bath, etc. They even clipped her back nails and trimmed her tuffs of fur that grow out in between her feet/toes - this is very common with cat breeds such as Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest cats.

Poor baby, she was so bad that half of her body needed to be shaved - including underneath her shoulder blades. She looks like a little gray lioness. But, she is happy to be back home now safe and sound .... 🐱✂

She was so good and well behaved, the groomers just loved her! So, mommy rewarded her with a couple of cat treats after we arrived home!

Thank you so much, Bianca at Penelope's Pooches!

The Big Day!

Yesterday was my Goddaughter, Kylianna's special Sweet 16 Celebration! The color scheme? You guessed it - PURPLE!!

As we entered the banquet hall building, there was a guest book on a long table with small wooden hearts and purple and silver markers so we could write a special message for Kyli on them and drop them in the bottom of the large heart ...

The inside of the hall was beautifully decorated with the tables all set up nicely ...

Everyone had such a great time and Kyli looked so lovely! Here she is posing with her younger sister, Kayleigha ... Love them both!!

🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂

The food was prepared by many of the family members from hot meals to cold snacks ...

Oh, and just in case you are wondering WHO that cool guy is in the purple tuxedo? That is Kiki's (Kyli's grandmother's) boyfriend of many years now. His name is Brian and he is so much fun! lol

Kayleigha ("Kay Kay") with she and Kyli's younger brother L.A. ("Little Anthony") ...

Brian, Kyli, and Kiki! ...

Kyli enjoying a dance with her Auntie Kerissa (Kik's youngest daughter) ...

A family pic ~ Brian, Kyli, Kayleigha, Kiki, L.A., and Aydin (Kyli's two younger brothers) ...

There was also a really cool slide show set up on the stage of Kyli and family through the years ... They also had a DJ.

A pic of my Goddaughter and I! ...

Oh yes, and last but not least, both Kyli and Kiki share the same birthday month so I gave her a card and gift as well. A pic of my husband and Kiki ...

Since her official birthstone is garnet, I gave her a garnet bracelet which she wore the entire night ...

Here's to YOU, Kylianna! Love you to the moon and back! ...

This and That

Greetings, friends! Well so far it has been a pretty rough start to the new year. To begin with, I found out that two of my high school classmates passed away on New Year's Eve. One of them was a sweet, beautiful soul whom I remember very fondly. His name was Craig Turner and he was a straight-A student up until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor while he was still in elementary school. I went to school with him and we even rode on the same school bus together. I remember the other kids, because kids can and are essentially cruel-hearted and nasty in my opinion, used to pick on him and make fun of him - just as they did me as well all through my school years. I inadvertently came across his obituary on Sunday night and decided to share the link directly to my "Class of 1983 Wilson High School" facebook page. NO ONE knew about his passing because apparantly my esteemed former classmates who were incharge of the page NEVER added him to our yearbook - this was simply unacceptable to me. And, a few of my former classsmates commented to this fact. I was saddened to read of his passing, but was glad to see that MANY of those same classmates left lovely comments to Craig's obituary post I shared - even sharing some of the good memories that they had of him in school ... Rest in Peace, my friend. 😢

(The obit) ...

Craig M. Turner, 57, of Reinholds, passed away surrounded with love on Friday, December 31, 2021, at Penn State St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading, PA. Born in Ephrata, Craig was the son of Elizabeth A. (Bailey) Turner and the late John W. Turner. Craig was a graduate of Wilson High School, class of 1983. He enjoyed astronomy and airplanes, particularly military flight; he always dreamed of being a pilot. Craig liked everything birds, his passion was to fly. Craig always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. He loved music of the 60’s and 70’s, especially the Beatles and Paul Revere and the Raiders. His presence brightened a room and a conversation with Craig would brighten your day. He loved life, loved being with his family, and his smile and laughter was contagious. He was the most amazing son, brother, and uncle, spoiling his entire family with attention and love. A sharp dresser, Craig enjoyed colorful sunglasses, fashions of his favorite era, and sporting a suit and tie like a rock star. A lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Adamstown, he loved belonging to this church and truly felt a part of this church community. In addition to his mother, Craig is survived by a sister, Margaret E. Yatron, brother-in-law Nick Yatron of Pocono Lake; a niece, Victoria Purcell; nephew, T.J. Fugee; great nephews, Trent Fugee and Nathan Purcell; and his cat, Morris. Craig was predeceased by his father and sister, Roxanne.

Moving on, this Saturday is my Goddaughter, Kylianna's Sweet 16 Birthday Party. I found a beautiful musical snow globe with a revolving cherub at Things Rememberd.

I had it engraved: "To my Goddaughter, Kylianna. I love you to the moon and back."

On Monday, I met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends, (and Kyli's grandmother), Kiki. at Ganly's Pub for lunch ...

I hope all is well with everyone and have a great weekend!

Throwback Thursday: What are Laryngospasms?

Has anyone ever had what is called a laryngospasm? For many years now, I have experienced only what I can describe as "air going down my throat/windpipe the wrong way." I am not eating food nor drinking anything when this happens - it is merely catching air down my throat/larynx which I have breathed in via my mouth that triggers a reaction to my body in which I CAN NOT BREATHE neither through my nose or through my mouth! Consequently, I can not speak either until it passes about 60 seconds later. During this time, it feels as though I am suffocating/drowning and it is THE scariest feeling in the world!
Here is some info I have found on this condition: What causes laryngospasm?
Laryngospasm (luh-RING-go-spaz-um) is a brief spasm of the vocal cords that temporarily makes it difficult to speak or breathe. The onset of vocal cord spasms is usually sudden, and the breathing difficulty can be alarming. However, the problem is not life-threatening, and it's generally brief and self-correcting as the condition typically lasts less than 60 seconds.
Your vocal cords are located in an upper part of the airway called the voice box (larynx). A vocal cord spasm limits the flow of air through the larynx. The cause of laryngospasm is often not known, but certain conditions may be contributing factors or triggers:
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which acid from the stomach backs up into the food pipe (esophagus)
  • Laryngopharyngeal reflux, in which the stomach acid backs up into the throat or back of the nasal passages
  • Anxiety or stress
Fortunately, these "spasms" do not happen frequently, but I do get them once in a while. My friend's aunt had this as well and she told me she had to have minor surgery in order to correct it.

Another New Year's gone by ...

Well, here it is, 2022. The end of one year and the beginning of another. We had a very quiet New Year's weekend. Friday night I picked my mom up and she stayed with us overnight. I made us all dinner ...

Steak with mac 'n' cheese  and grilled chicken with mashed potatoes.

On New Year's Day we joined our good friends at the Sinking Spring VFW where we chilled out and had eaten dinner. My mom had a traditional homemade Pork and Sauerkraut meal and I had homemade Chicken and Dumplings. The decorations were so lovely. I took some pics ...

CHEERS!

Of course, our New Year's Day weather was miserable as it rained ALL day and night and we had quite a bit of fog here in our area. As for tomorrow, well I have some running around I must do and I am also planning on getting together with my friend Kiki (my Goddaughter Kyli's grandmom) for lunch. Then, on Tuesday, sadly it is back to the grind. It will be a VERY busy next two months for me starting with Tuesday morning I must go to a doctor appointment early in the morning before I go to work (sigh). Oh well, such is life, folks!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's! ...

(Just a couple of pics I took of Chester on New Year's Day) ...

Just a  bit of humble advice for the New Year ... 💗
