A Blast from the Past

Greetings, friends. While reading one of my blogger friends posts, CJ of her blog CJ & Ink, over this past weekend, it reminded me of just how much I love the sport of figure skating. As a follow up to her post, I wanted to share some awesome performances of two of my all-time favorite Ice Dance teams. They are Torvill & Dean of Great Britain and Paul & Isabelle Duchesnay. I hope you enjoy!

Torvill & Dean's "Bolero" Olympic Gold metal winning Free Dance  in 1984 and their 1994 Olympic Bronze metal winning Free Skate program to "Face the Music and Dance" ...

Christopher Dean was also the choreographer for the Ice Dancing brother and sister pair, Paul and Isabelle Duchesnay,  from Quebec, Canada who had represented France in the 1992 Olympics Games.

Duchesnay & Duchesnay - 1992 Silver Metal Free Dance program performance to the music of "West Side Story" ...

The Duchesnay's Silver Metal performance to "Missing" at the 1990 World Championships.

  1. Thanks for sharing these videos. I've always liked ice skating. It's like ballet in flight.

    1. "Ballet in flight" ... that is so poetic, and true!

  2. Boy does this bring back memories. I did figure skating in high school and university I even made it to nationals. But the rigors of practicing, devoting time to travel to compete and going to university fulltime was too much. Something had to give. So, I hung up the skates. It was a really exciting time in my life, and I have some wonderful memories...and a few bad falls! It's the nature of the beast. Thanks for sharing this. It certainly took me back to my youth.

    1. I never knew that about you, John - VERY COOL! Were you a singles skater or were you an Ice Dancing or Pairs skater?

Have you ever heard of Christopher Bowman? I have always been amazed how he went from child actor to a World Class medalist and Professional Men's Figure Skater! Sadly, he had many demons and never reached his full potential. Scott Hamilton once said that Chris was the "MOST NATURALLY talented skater he had ever known". Chris passed away a few years ago, but I still love to watch his wonderful skating performances - He will always be "Bowman the Showman"! :-)
