A little over two weeks ago, I woke up and began feeding the cats as usual when I turned around and saw what I can only describe as a HORROR in front of my refrigerator on my kitchen floor - two huge puddles of blood! And, sitting close by was my fur baby Charlie. I picked him up and saw that he had blood all over the inside of his left leg and it would NOT stop bleeding! Lo and behold my hubby just happened to pull into the driveway and when I showed him Charlie's leg he said, "We need to get him to the emergency vet right away!" And so we called the closest pet urgent care facility that we could get him to called, "PetHealth Urgent Care of Wyomissing". They immediately took care of him and showed us that - despite the fact that we had just had his annual check up at our own vet in February - he had a tumor mass which had apparently burst. They surgically removed his tumor that afternoon and we picked him up later that night. They sent his tumor tissue out for a biopsy to find out if it was malignant or benign. We are still awaiting those results ...
Poor Charlie had to wear a "cone of shame" (Elizabethan Collar) for two weeks. We just took him back to the emergency vet to get his stiches removed last Wednesday morning ...

What's new?
Greetings, friends! What's new?
Well, on Monday Butterscotch had his follow-up appointment. It went well. Dr. Watska said he checked out and she saw no lumps or tumors on his left leg. She told us to remind her to check his leg every time Butterscotch has an appointment so that she may examine it. My husband usually drives and I keep him on my lap in his carrier so that I may calm him down, but this time I had to take him myself. Poor guy was so upset and would not stop crying until we got there.

Weekend Happenings
Greetings, friends. After almost three months of ungodly heat and humid weather, we finally had to replace our central air unit. We had been nursing it along for a couple of summers because we did not have the funds to buy a brand new one. Our old one had a leak in it and we tried having it patched but it did not work and since you can no longer get Freon anymore that was that. This past Thursday, B.L. Ott came out and installed our new central air unit. It cost us $8,000 but has a 10-year warrantee. We were able to front $5,000 of it, but we had to finance the rest.

The cats were also really feeling the horrible heat we have been having here ...

In other news, we recently traded in our DISH Network for a V See Box. We had DISH Network for many years, but when they tried to force us to upgrade costing us $150.00 more per month, my husband said NOPE! In case you do not know what a V See Box is, it is a small box that streams off of your internet service. It has EVERYTHING from a huge array of movies, television series, Live TV, YouTube, Netflix, Disney Channel, Prime Video, and MORE! It comes with a remote control which is easy to use. The only thing is, once in a while you must reboot - no big deal.

This and That
Greetings, friends. Not much happening here this week except my husband was sick last weekend with a fever - chills, sweats and all. Hence, I am sick now too with most of the same symptoms. So I had to take a couple of days off to recover. My "illustrious employer" does not believe in giving us ANY sick days so I had to use my unpaid FMLA given that I have no more PTO days left - not that we get many of those either because we don't. Since I must go pick up my mom's dirty laundry at Mifflin Court every week, I can not afford to get her sick as well (more about her in an upcoming post).
My car is also giving me problems, I am having trouble getting it to start. It is a crap shoot. It is not the battery because my husband just put a new one in two weeks ago and the garage put a new one in a few months before that when I had to get my car inspected. Either something is draining my battery or there is a wiring problem somewhere or perhaps even electrical because sometimes for no reason at all the radio will turn on then shut off without me touching it. A few days ago, I heard a loud BOOM and I thought maybe my speakers blew out - since then I have not even tried to use the radio. I called the garage and they can not get my car in until NEXT Wednesday - which of course does me no good what-so-ever if my car leaves me sit before then! Always something, eh? ...
In the meantime, Butterscotch is enjoying the new plush blanket with pumpkins on it that I bought on sale at Ocean State Job Lot a few months ago ...

Orange Watermelon
Orange Watermelon: Nutrition, Uses, & Differences
You may have never seen an Orange Watermelon before, but they are a delicious and unique addition to any summer barbecue and offer an impressive amount of health benefits.
What is an Orange Watermelon?
Orange watermelon is a colored cultivar of the Citrullus lanatus but is quite similar to traditional watermelons in size, sweetness, appearance, and texture. The difference in color is primarily due to the concentration of pigment cells, such as lycopene and beta-carotene. Red watermelons have a high level of lycopene – the same chemical that makes tomatoes red, while orange watermelons have a balance between lycopene and beta-carotene, resulting in its orange appearance. What many people don’t realize is that watermelons were originally cultivated to be yellow and orange, while the globally recognized red watermelon was only cultivated later.
The outside of an orange watermelon is green and striped, like traditional watermelons, and it usually weighs between 10 and 30 pounds when fully developed and ripe. If you are looking for this type of specialty watermelon, it may be marketed under a number of other names, such as Orangeglo, Orange Sunshine or Honeyheart.

Nutritional Value of Orange Watermelon
Orange watermelon possesses many of the same nutrient qualities as red watermelons, with a few notable differences. These watermelons are high in fiber, protein, carbohydrates, vitamin C, vitamin A, and potassium. More than 90% of these fruits are composed of water, in addition to having roughly 45 calories in a 1-cup serving. Without any fat or cholesterol, these fruits are generally considered very healthy. Orange watermelons have higher levels of beta-carotene than traditional watermelons, which could slightly alter the antioxidant activities of this fruit in your body.
Uses of Orange Watermelon
People tend to use orange watermelon as an occasional summer treat, mixed into fruit salads, or blended up into fruit smoothies. It is important to remove the seeds for certain preparations, but not all. Some people prefer to grill this type of watermelon, as the high concentration of sugars will begin to caramelize and enhance the sweetness. Slicing this fruit into cubes, or scooping out watermelon balls can also be a refreshing addition to green salads, along with walnuts, pears or feta cheese. You can also pickle the rind of these watermelons, or use slices as garnishes for cocktails and cold soups.
Difference Between Red & Orange Watermelon
The primary difference between a red watermelon and orange watermelon is their concentration of active ingredients. If beta-carotene causes foods to have a yellow pigment, and lycopene provides a red color, then the balance of these two compounds would result in an orange fruit. That is the case of orange and red watermelon; the former has more beta-carotene than the latter, resulting in the surprising disparity in color. Aside from this difference in chemical composition, these two fruits are very similar. In terms of size, it is very similar to “Crimson Sweet” and “Millionaire” watermelons – two red variants of this fruit.
There are more than a dozen different watermelon varieties, including pink, yellow, orange and white watermelons; the color difference is natural in some cases, while other variants are specifically bred to have their unique shape and color.

Not for the faint of heart ...
My dad always used to tell us, "Growing old is not for the faint of heart." And as with most things that he would tell us, he was right. As we age it stands to reason that our health will decline - it is just a matter of what part our body and how much will we have to endure of our health issues.
With me, it started a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with arthritis throughout my entire body (something my dad suffered with until the day he died along with heart disease) and osteoporosis all over my body as well (something my mom also suffers from).
This past Monday, I had an appointment with my PCP and she finally had to put me on blood pressure meds. My blood pressure was consistently high - between 160's and 180's. Since my doctor believes (as do I) that it is always better to try a natural solution first rather than throw prescription meds at her patients, we tried that route first, but it was not working well enough hence the meds. I am currently taking one 50mg tablet of Losartan Potassium a day. So far it has been working well. My blood pressure went from 160/100 the day of my appointment to 143/82 by Wednesday and today it is down to 136/70. I was told that this is a very non-aggressive drug so it will not damage my kidneys.
My dad also used to say, "It is what it is." ...

Fun Friday!
Happy Friday, my friends! Really loving the "cooler" temps that we have had for the past couple of days here. However, it is supposed to go back to the 90's and horrible humidity tomorrow -unfortunately.
At any rate, I am counting down the days until Mabon and the start of Fall - YEESS! 🎃🍂
My sister Aurora Skye told me about a website she found called, "Tamed Wild". It is a really cool site where you can order various kinds boxes of awesome items. She and I both ordered a one-time "Witchy Grab Bag" at a $38.00 value for only $10.00 plus shipping & handling (which still costs us less than $20.00) - not bad ...
