This past Monday night after I arrived home from work, I was expecting to see Benny and Kitt in the garage, but to my surprise, instead I saw two 5 week old kittens (actually THREE, but the third one ran somewhere else inside of our messy garage and we could not find it until the very next morning when I heard a kitten crying in the garage . The little gray one was so scared - hissing and spitting at me ...
End of story, right? Nope. The very next night after I came come from work, while feeding the outside cats, I heard a kitten crying very loudly! It sounded like it was coming from across the street - which it was. My husband and I went searching for it outside with flashlights and ... BINGO! The poor little thing was hiding underneath a skid in back of a building. It walked out to my husband rather easily and I picked it up and, again, placed it in a cat carrier to take to ARL (Animal Rescue League) the very next day ...
NOW end of the story, right? NOPE. The very next morning around 10am, I heard more crying kittens. They were huddled right outside our garage door. I immediately got up out of bed (remember, I work second shift so I sleep in late) and picked them up and put them into the cat carrier yet again. This time, the story ended a bit differently. My husband was going to take them both to ARL that same day, but luckily, mama cat showed up!!! She rolled around on the cement when she saw her babies and when she got up to leave, the kittens followed her ... THANK GOD!! ...
We did have a back up plan just in case ARL would not take them. I ran out to our local Pet Smart before work and picked up two cans of KMR and a kitten nursing kit. Thankfully, we did not need them!!!
Today, we ran back out to ARL to drop off another donation. One the way home, we bought another bed for Benny (or Kitt) to put inside of our garage...We put Benny's old bed inside of it with two warm blankets ...
Benny and Kitt having their nightly dinner ...

We have been trying to clean up the yard and our disaster of a garage. We began working on it about two weeks ago ...
Never a dull moment, eh??
Have a great rest of the weekend all!!
What a stressful situation! You"ve truly been in a feline nightmare. The kittens are adorable and look healthy, but.......
ReplyDeleteI applaud you and your husband for doing all the right things.
This reminds me when I lived in Texas. My neighbor moved and abandoned her cats. They all migrated to my yard. Within a few months I had at least 30 cats to care for! They multiply like rabbits.
Boy, you sure got THAT right, Jon! Now we have to TNR the momma cat before the nightmare continues! We have a Have a Heart Trap in our garage so we will try in a couple of months after the kittens have grown up enough to be on their own.
DeleteMy Lady, you and your husband are so kind and generous. What a wonderful thing to do for Mama cat and her kittens. Oh my, they were all so cute. Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, CJ. We have always been passionate about saving and helping cats our entire lives. Now, we will have to wait a couple of more months until the kittens are old enough to live without her then we will have to attempt to TNR her so that there are no more future "cat-astrophes" to deal with!
DeleteWhat a situation. What a story. Your kindness is so touching. I hope all works out well for mama cat and kittens. It's a cruel world out there, but thankfully there are people like you and your husband.
ReplyDeleteParanormal John
Yes, John the world is indeed cruel and so can Nature be. We will try to TNR her in a couple of months or so using our Have a Heart Trap.
DeleteWish us LUCK!
