R.I.P. Scott Weiland

Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away at the age of 48 in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota with his band. It was no real secret that Scott Weiland was plagued with his own personal, self-afflicting demons of drug addiction and spent much of his career in and out of drug and alcohol rehabs. Still, he had an incredibly wonderful and very distinctive voice. I will miss him.

Back in October of 2009, hubby and I had gotten the chance to see Stone Temple Pilots perform live at the Sovereign Performing Arts Center in our home town of Reading, PA.

The following pics were taken the night of the concert we attended by our local newspaper, the Reading Eagle-Times.

Another Book Faire: A Book Review

Every spring and fall for the past five years or so, an organization called, "Books Are Fun" visits my job and sets up all of their wonderful items in our large lunchroom. Discounted books, unique gifts including assorted cards, toys, candles, and more make great home and holiday gifts, most especially at this time of the year.

As you all know, my hubby and I were born and raised in Pennsylvania (more specifically, Berks County). One thing I always look forward to is the newest collection of reading material which they always have  in stock regarding Pennsylvania i.e. haunted places, ghost stories, recreational spots through out Pennsylvania, and so forth.

This year, I picked up a neat little book for hubby called, "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader: Plunges Into Pennsylvania." This book is fairly complete and tells all about PA's history, inventions, famous people who hail from PA, delicious recipes, interesting facts about each town and/or county, and even includes one of my favorite sections: "You Know You're a Pennsylvanian When ..."

Although some parts of this book are actually area specific and therefore I am not familiar with certain phrases used and such. For instance, the folks in/or around the Pittsburgh area are very, very different in various aspects from where I come from. Example? Well, in Pittsburgh, they call a rubber band a "gumband" and they say, "I must rudd up the living room" instead of "straighten up or tidy up" the living room.

Allow me to share a little more of this chapter of the book with all of you:

"You Know You're a Pennsylvanian When ..."

1) You drink pop, eat hoagies and chipped ham, and play at the crick as a kid.
2)  You stuff your Thanksgiving turkey with "filling," not stuffing or dressing.
3)  You tell people you are from PA, not Pennsylvania.
4)  You have only three spices in your house: pepper, salt, and Heinz ketchup.
5)  You're used to hearing horses' hooves on the street.
6)  You pronounce Lancaster, Wilkes-Barre, and Lebanon correctly.
7)  You know that the summer street fairs signal the beginning of funnel cake season.
8)  You eat dinner for lunch.
9)  You can spell Bryn Mawr, Schuylkill, and Monongahela without looking them up.
10) You use the term "it's all" instead of "all gone."
Example: After you request chipped ham (thinly sliced ham), the guy at the deli counter tells you, "Sorry, but it's all."
11) "What for" is used in place of the word "which."
Example: "What for golf club are you gonna use on this shot?"
12) Instead of saying, "shut off the light," you say "outen (or close) the light."

I am sure that by now you get the idea. LOL!! In any case, hubby and I found this book to be quite fun and amusing as well as factually interesting. I even bought one for my MIL!

"The Legend of Phil" ~ My New Poem

The Legend of Phil
All gather 'round
Come one, come all!
To see the groundhog~
Furry and small
On Groundhog Day
We wait for Phil
To predict for us
Mother Natures' will
"We love Phil!"
His adoring fans shout;
"An early spring!"
to him they tout
And greeting the crowd,
Donning black top hats
Are men in tuxedo's ~
Phil's diplomats
They tap on the door
of Phil's lair so warm;
To awaken the groundhog
On this chilly morn
Wielding two scrolls
Wherein hold the key;
Phil chooses just one ~
Which one will it be?
"Hear Ye, Hear Ye!"
The President now spouts;
Then translates Phil's forecast
And leaves us no doubts
Had Phil seen his shadow
on this cold Groundhog's Day?
Six more weeks of winter?
Or early spring on the way?

Just an FYI ...

Greetings and Happy Sunday, my friends! Not much happening here today; except that I just wanted to let my friends and followers know that as of this morning I have decided to change my settings on my comment section to my posts to allow only followers of this blog to comment!

Yes, once again I am being harassed by some nut case who is, thankfully, not one of my followers but rather a whack job who follows another blog which I happen to follow as well ... hence they found my blog link after I left a comment there. Of course, this moron also has their own blog as well. You know, the kind of blog that shows you a message warning you about the offensive content because Blogger had gotten so many complaints about their blog? Whatever ...

Upon actually viewing this person's blog myself, I can honestly tell you that this person gets off on offending all kinds of people! As far as I am concerned, if someone wants to be an a-hole, there is nothing I can do to change that, but do not continuously antagonize other bloggers on their personal blogs. It is just plain rude and unnecessary. Besides, I simply do not have the time nor the inclination to deal with the likes of idiots such as that! Not to mention the fact that I refused to publish their non-sense comments to my posts probably only served to piss them off even more so. Oh well, that's life, isn't it? LOL!

At any rate; hopefully, my friends and followers will not have an issue leaving comments as in the past when I had to change my settings.  ;)

Thank you & Enjoy the rest of the weekend all!

Surprisingly Nice Holiday!

Yet another holiday come and gone. Originally, we all had planned on having dinner with my hubby's cousin's family at their house, but since my MIL is still on the mend from her recent hip surgery, we had a change of plans and spent a rather enjoyable Thanksgiving day eating dinner and relaxing at my in-laws instead.

My bro, me and my mom

"Tulip" (my MIL's King Charles Cavalier rescue dog)

And, this afternoon, hubby and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to get together with a former High School band mate of mine and a really good friend of his whom he had graduated with for an early dinner and drinks at a place located just down the road from us called, "Ganly's Irish Pub." The last time I had the chance to see my band mate friend was approximately four years ago. It was so great to see these guys again during the holidays!

 Jeff, me & Tim

All of us 4 years ago at "Flanagan's Pub"

Jeff lives in North Carolina and is heading back home sometime tomorrow afternoon. And as for me, well it's back to reality and my usual weekend chores!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYONE!!!

This and That

Another busy week has come and gone and with the holiday of Thanksgiving approaching this coming week it will promise to be yet another busy one. Since our families always celebrate it, suffice it to say, so do we because they are, after all, our only family. Hubby, myself, and my mom are planning on spending Thanksgiving day having a delicious home-cooked dinner at hubby's cousin's home. It is always nice to be able to spend quality time with friends and family regardless of the reason for the season.

My MIL is currently out of the hospital after her hip surgery and in a very good rehab for a few days. Not sure if she will make it home or not in time for Thanksgiving as of yet. Hubby has been and is still staying at the in-laws house in order to watch over his dad who has Alzheimer's and obviously can not be left to his own devices. He naturally has his "good" days and his "bad" days which is to be expected. under the circumstances.

Me 'n' hubby clowning around: A little pic of us taken back in 1998.

Highlight of the week? Hubby surprised me with a lovely little bouquet of carnations (my favorite flower actually) ...

And finally, for all of my friends who celebrate it, I wish everyone a very Blessed Thanksgiving!
