A week of CAT-astrophes!

This past Monday night after I arrived home from work, I was expecting to see Benny and Kitt in the garage, but to my surprise, instead I saw two 5 week old kittens (actually THREE, but the third one ran somewhere else inside of our messy garage and we could not find it until the very next morning when I heard a kitten crying in the garage . The little gray one was so scared - hissing and spitting at me ...

I carefully took the two kittens out of Benny's bed and placed them right outside of our garage in hopes that mama cat would return for them. In many cases, mommy places her kittens somewhere she feels that they are "safe" and then goes out hunting for food - especially at night. The next morning, they were gone, but the third kitten was still somewhere in our garage. At about 9:30am on Tuesday morning, I heard it crying in our garage. I got up and sure enough it was inside of a bin covered by a bucket! I took it out and placed it outside, but NO mama cat. So, I took it back inside of our house and placed it in one of our large cat carriers for my husband to take to our local Animal Rescue League (along with a $150.00 donation) on his lunch hour because there was no way we could keep it alive at that young of an age. Kittens that young can NOT do anything for themselves - mother's milk only (or KMR milk) 3-4 times a day, rub their bellies and back end to stimulate them because they can not go to the bathroom by themselves as of yet, etc.

End of story, right? Nope. The very next night after I came come from work, while feeding the outside cats, I heard a kitten crying very loudly! It sounded like it was coming from across the street - which it was. My husband and I went searching for it outside with flashlights and ... BINGO! The poor little thing was hiding underneath a skid in back of a building. It walked out to my husband rather easily and I picked it up and, again, placed it in a cat carrier to take to ARL (Animal Rescue League) the very next day ...

NOW end of the story, right? NOPE. The very next morning around 10am, I heard more crying kittens. They were huddled right outside our garage door. I immediately got up out of bed (remember, I work second shift so I sleep in late) and picked them up and put them into the cat carrier yet again. This time, the story ended a bit differently. My husband was going to take them both to ARL that same day, but luckily, mama cat showed up!!! She rolled around on the cement when she saw her babies and when she got up to leave, the kittens followed her ... THANK GOD!! ...

We did have a back up plan just in case ARL would not take them. I ran out to our local Pet Smart before work and picked up two cans of KMR and a kitten nursing kit. Thankfully, we did not need them!!!
Today, we ran back out to ARL to drop off another donation. One the way home, we bought another bed for Benny (or Kitt) to put inside of our garage...

In addition, we placed a large bin (which my mom used to use to store her gardening tools in, etc.) outside in our back yard for a cat shelter for mama cat and her kittens. I PRAY she uses it! ...

We put Benny's old bed inside of it with two warm blankets ...

We have been trying to clean up the yard and our disaster of a garage. We began working on it about two weeks ago ...

Never a dull moment, eh??

Have a great rest of the weekend all!!
