The one thing I hate about the hot, humid summer weather which we get around here is the pesty ants that just love to hone in on any little morsel of food they can find - and no matter how small, trust me they will find it! :(
I have been having trouble with ants in our enclosed porch where we feed our cat Haley. These small ants are getting all over her food in no time! So, I found a home remedy that I thought I would try ...
I took a bowl/dish and filled it with water then placed Haley's smaller food dish inside of it. I tried it last night and so far, so good.
(Can you see the little drowned ants? ... seems to be working for keeping them OUT of her food dish)
Now, I have seen something similar on google.com from a couple of different sites, but this is a much cheaper way to take care of the problem. :)
Smart idea Kim...ants breath through their sides and will drown in water if they are foolish enough to dive in :)
ReplyDeleteJan, my thoughts exactly! LOL
DeleteThat is an excellent idea Kim!!! Thank you for sharing! It's interesting to see the pictures. Did Haley get confused, seeing the water first? Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacy! No, Haley actually did not get confused, to me surprise LOL
DeleteBlessings and hugs!!!
Good kitty! I would have got confused! LOL!
DeleteMy mom used to use this trick all the time when I was younger. :)
ReplyDeleteRobert, your mom is a smart woman. :)
DeleteYou can also try mixing a small amount of borax with honey. Put it on a paper plate with the edge cut off so the ants don't have to climb. My Ink never went near the honey, but you might want to put this where Haley won't get at it, but the ants will. Borax may be toxic to cats so you may want to double check with your vet.
